YOHEL'S BAGNET STATION

I can't believe it's been a couple of weeks already since I last wrote and promised you guys a post in the next, well, couple of weeks. Haha! Anyway, I am really excited to share a foodie place that  comes up with menu items that are conceptualized around one delicious Filipino pork dish: BAGNET! Oh yes, the crunchy, tasty bagnet that is reminiscent of the North. Glad to know that us Marikenyos need not travel that far though just to have a taste of yummy bagnet!

Yohel's Bagnet opened its doors to crunchy-crispy-pork-belly fans last April, and, as soon as I tried a piece of their original bagnet dish, I knew: this place warrants my, yours and everybody's visit! (I think a photo post in FB got tons of attention as soon as I uploaded it, hehe!)

Sis and I had a hard time ordering. All dishes were tempting! Since I am beginning to doubt my cholesterol levels, I suggested we limit our order to three dishes... and try the others next time! Har har har!

Ladies and gentlemen, at this point I suggest you ready a couple of wet wipes or tissue to wipe off the drool from your computer screens.

The Kare-Kare Bagnet solo order (115 PhP for a solo meal, with rice) had a wonderful nutty flavor to it. The crunchy texture of the pork belly was a welcome twist from the usual soft tripe or pork knuckle. This one we will definitely order again.

The Binagoongang Bagnet (115 PhP for a solo meal, with rice) was another marvel. Crunchy cuts of pork belly nestled upon a piece of inihaw na talong smothered with bagoong. Imagine how heavenly this tastes with sukang Iloko! Yum!

Just to "titillate" your taste buds, here is another angle of the Binagoongang Bagnet. See how the crackle of the pork skin jumps right off your screen? Hehe!

I loved the Original Bagnet dish (105 PhP for a solo meal, with rice) most of all. It comes with your choice of sauce, but since I couldn't make up my mind, I ordered all the available sauces. Clockwise from left: Sukang Iloko dip, Lechon Sauce dip, Atchara dip, and my super duper favorite Bagoong Isda dip. Can I teleport to Yohel's Bagnet right now?

So, if you're craving for bagnet, no need to travel up north. Just look for Yohel's Bagnet across SDS hospital and have your share of well-prepared and delicious bagnet dishes that are guaranteed to satisfy.

TIYO'S CUISINE BY CHEF & BREWER

I am now on my fourth month of pregnancy and I couldn't eat as much as I'd love to like before, but that couldn't stop me from discovering awesome food places for you dear readers! This restaurant has been on my list for a couple of months now after receiving another recommendation from a reader. Together with my ever reliable support group - Mom and Sis - we checked out Tiyo's Cuisine by Chef & Brewer and we had a really great time!

I just love foodie places loaded with photo ops. I was informed that the place has been operating for just a couple of months, and I really look forward to what Tiyo's will offer us in the future. Ooops, here come our orders:

Pesto with Aligue (320 PhP) Soooo good! This dish serves 2-3 persons.

We had a great dining experience at Tiyo's Cuisine! The ambience is great, the prices affordable, and of course, the dishes are delicious! They currently have ongoing promos such as buy 1 take 1 for beers at 55 PhP, and the unlimited 1-peso brewed coffee. Check their Facebook page for more details.

More Reasons to Love PERFECT MOMENTS

And so I am back, my dearies. So sorry to have you hanging in there!

Let me open the mid-year (Yes, it IS June!) with a post featuring one of our favorite foodie spots in Blue Wave Marikina: PERFECT MOMENTS! I love the interiors, the affordable food and the warm service at Perfect Moments. I will always go back for their carrot cake, too. :-)

We were back at Perfect Moments to get a much-needed break from all the fast food we have been feeding our human bodies with. I discovered at that moment that they serve a dish that I uber love, specially for merienda (nuninuninu). But first, some photos:

We ordered our staples:

 Grilled Chicken (Dish comes with your choice of Plain, Garlic or Spicy rice, with free iced tea!)

Grilled Liempo (Dish comes with your choice of Plain, Garlic or Spicy rice, with free iced tea!)

 Sizzling Burger Steak (Dish comes with your choice of Plain, Garlic or Spicy rice, with free iced tea!)

Their spicy fried rice: this is the first time I tried this rice and let me tell you, it is really spicy. If your tolerance for spice is quite low, you can ask them to adjust the chili they mix with the rice.

Now, let me tell you about the dish that I was overly happy to find at Perfect Moments:

Pancit Habhab!!! Waaaahhhh! I loooove Pancit Habhab. Typical of the province of Quezon, this pancit is best eaten with vinegar. The thought of a place very near my home that serves pancit habhab thrills me no end...

AUNTIE'S BAKESHOP AND PASALUBONG

There are streets in Marikina that are studded with foodie places, namely: Rainbow Street, Lilac Street, J.P. Rizal, and Gil Fernando. I can add more, but those foodie spots are kept in a secret folder which I will be publishing soon.

It is convenient to dine in Marikina. The city is small making it easy to go around 'till you find a foodie place to your liking. The prices are low compared to more commercial cities. And of course: Marikenyos are known for their discipline which translates into great customer service. I hope you agree with me. :)

The last stretch that I mentioned earlier was Gil Fernando. It was formerly called Tuazon so if someone tells you to go to Tuazon in Marikina, you know where to make the turn. (Gil Fernando is the stretch of road from Sta. Lucia foot bridge to Marquinton - at least to give you an idea.) In this stretch, there are many food places, I've featured some of them here, such as Luyong, Zakee, Good Thymes and Tapsi ni Vivian. There are still so many waiting to be featured!

Another place that serves really good Pancit Malabon is Auntie's Bakeshop and Pasalubong! Obviously, this foodie spot is also located along Gil Fernando. I noticed a lot of people coming in and picking up their bilaos for advanced orders. Auntie's serves Pancit ng Taga Malabon, and it really tastes good! I love the sauce and the squid toppings.

While waiting for our orders, we munched on Classic Chicharon Puti :) (These are actually fish crackers!)

Auntie's also offers set meals called FIESTA MEALS. We all ordered Fiesta Meals, to have a portion of both the Pancit Malabon and an entree of our choice.

Even More Reasons to Love QIZIA CAFE

Every Marikenyo or Marikenya has probably visited this place at least once, and perhaps the people of Antipolo too. (I was told they have a branch in that area.) After all, who can resist good food, good prices and good service?

We were at Qizia Cafe again some weeks ago for our beloved Tita Amy's birthday celebration! I was really excited for this thanksgiving and for the opportunity to take lots of food photos since we were a big group. (More people = more food).

Some of us ordered dishes that I already sampled in our previous visits:

Convinced? They're open from 9 AM to 1 AM so if you're hungry you have quite a big window to drop by Qizia Cafe. I still wasn't able to try their infamous cheese sticks though. Next time Qizia, next time. :)
