STEAK-OFF GRILL

Driving around at 10pm, I was originally planning to go to Lilac or Rainbow street. Coming from my sister's house I passed through Katipunan extension and saw Steak-Off Grill. The place is packed whenever I pass by the area, so I was quite eager to try the food.

Upon seeing the menu, it wasn't hard for me to choose: Porterhouse it is. Hehe. I opted to add a side of corn and a soda. Order cones with rice and gravy. 

The meat tasted so good you do not need gravy. Of course, the gravy tastes great with the meat, too.

For a total of 229 for my order (good to share, but my belief is that steaks are not meant for sharing) lol

INDUSTRIYA

UI know a lot of you are waiting for a post about Industriya. I highly recommend this for events and those seeking a relaxing and sumptuous dining experience. The place is spacious, yet cozy, and the food tastes great! We celebrated my sister Rona's birthday there last week. :)

We were able to try their Seafood Thermidor pasta, Gamberetti pasta, Truffle Cream pasta, and I definitely would like for you to try the Industriya Pizza!! Salmon, anchovies, blue cheese, mozzarella on a perfect thin crust... What can go wrong? A dinner for two would cost about 500 up, depending on the orders, entrées would cost a little more of course.

MARIKINA HOMEBAKERS featuring KHRIZ CRINKLES

Now if you don't believe in overnight success, this homebaker will prove you otherwise! Khriz got in touch with me through the All Over Marikina Facebook page, and asked me to sample her products. One bite, and I was swept away!

Guess what, a few days later, she was booked for a morning show and has not stopped baking bulk orders since then! What an inspiration KHRIZ CRINKLES is!

Do you have a day job aside from baking? Can you share a bit?

"I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines but after a year of practice, I flew to another country to study and work for almost 4 years. I came back last year, 2013. I didn't work since then but instead I helped my mom at home and took care of my cousin's kids. Until I started Sweets by Kali."

How long have you been baking goodies? What started the idea of being a homebaker?
"It all started with my mom's hobby of cooking and baking. And I always observe and look on what's she's doing in the kitchen. So she started teaching me, I think that was during my grade school days. Every time she bakes something, I always help her and that's how I also practice baking.
 
When I was away in another country, most of my Filipino friends and family friends craved for Filipino sweets. So I started thinking on baking and selling Filipino sweets to earn extra money, such as Leche flan, Brazo de Mercedes, puto, pichi-pichi, cassava cake, banana cake and special coconut macaroons, which were my bestsellers then."

"After a year of not working, since I came back, my friend asked me if I can bake something like brownies and cookies for her friend's tea shop. So I didn't think twice as I really like to bake and to earn money at the same time. That was 16th of May this year, when 'sweetsbykali' was born. I am supplying them fudge brownies and chewy oatmeal bars once a week. I post pictures on fb about my sweets and had quick response from my friends and my sister's friends. As of now I have 5 resellers who sell my sweets in their offices and hopefully more to come! I also accept package orders for souvenirs and giveaways in weddings, birthdays and any event. The price of the package depends on the kind of sweet they like. The prices of my goodies are very affordable they only range from 100-150 pesos per tub. COOKIE MUG

Marikina will never run out of interesting food places, quite notable is the foodie haven boom at Lilac Street! My friend KC Astroboy, blog author of Fly, Astroboy, Fly, recommended this cool dessert cafe at the other end of Lilac: the wonder that is COOKIE MUG!

You'll get immediately drawn to the place by the smell of baked goodies and freshly brewed coffee, and maybe the statue of Betty Boop that I wasn't able to take a picture of (booo). The most interesting product of the cafe was of course, the cookie mugs. Edible shot-glass shaped cookies into which you can pour milk, caramel, or chocolate milk. The best part of course is eating the cookie mug after you finish your drink. Enjoy the photos!

PAPA ROCK'S BIG BURGERS AND GRILLERY

Hi dearest Marikina Food Trippers! It's been a while since I last posted, I am really sorry about that! I was quite busy in putting up my own cupcakery in the South (we have too many already in the Metro, hehe!), but I remain in love with Marikina (and a resident of it of course), and I shall continue to write about all the great food that Marikina has to offer. Shuttling from Marikina to the South and back has been and continues to be a challenge, but I knew from the start it wouldn't be easy!

Sis and I discovered an awesome burger place near the Marikina City Hall! The place is PAPA ROCK'S BIG BURGERS AND GRILLERY. As soon as I received an invite to try out the place from Papa Rocky de Jesus himself, we packed a big appetite and headed off to Papa Rock's on an early Sunday morning.

You wont' miss it as it is located along Sparrow street, a walking distance from the Marikina City Hall. You will see this sign below, and you know that you have arrived at another awesome burger joint in Marikina.

We immediately surveyed the menu, and Papa Rocky was there personally to take our orders and chat with us as we waited for our dishes to arrive. I've said this many times, I really appreciate it when owners take time to talk to their customers and ask about the food served and their overall dining experience. Papa Rocky talked about the burger preparation, the concept behind their food, and we covered more topics about Marikina.

Then our orders arrived:

I have posted about this on the FB page, and this is by far my favorite rendition of Carbonara (60 PhP). Not too saucy, just the right amount of cream, cheese, BACON, the pasta cooked to a perfect al dente. I told Papa Rock that they definitely nailed this one. If I want Carbonara, I have Papa Rock's on top of my list.

Then comes the star of the set: THE JAWBUSTER (150 PhP). The buns tasted really fresh, the patties were cooked perfectly, the proportions of the cheese, dressing and veggies were spot on. This is definitely a burger you have to experience! I think a lot of those who already tried it will agree. :-)

We also sampled the breakfast menu, of which we chose the Heavy Breakfast (60 PhP). Yes you read it right: 60 PESOS ONLY! You have two waffles, three cocktail hotdogs and an egg, which you can have sunny side up or scrambled. I love how they cooked the waffle too! This is another item on the menu you shouldn't miss, especially if you want to have your tummy filled at an affordable price.

The shakes are good, too. We ordered the Strawberry Shake (40 PhP) and the Choco-Banana Blend (60 PhP). These went really well with the burger. It takes you to a "diner" feel. A good burger + a good milkshake ;-)

Papa Rock's can accommodate around 20 to 30 people (or more?) since they have extended the dining area beyond the counter. I look forward to visiting them again, and I highly recommend this place for SUPER good food, at SUPER affordable prices. Hope you visit them soon!
