Goto has never been this good.
("Goto" is the Filipino term for rice porridge) - Update: according to a reader, GOTO is actually the term for "twalya" (or tripe, in English). I never knew that! :-D Funny, how lots of goto chains sell goto even without the tripe itself as an ingredient. I guess "goto" has been culturally accepted as a term for rice porridge similar to "lugaw". Well, I GUESS. :-)
Everytime I crave for goto there is only one eatery in my mind: Macky's goto. I think the secret for this family business' success is that they never compromise the ingredients of their goto despite inflation (hehe!). In your 23-peso goto, you will find a rich flavor of rice, beef, and pig's blood. So yummy:
What else can perfectly pair goto but a plate of tokwa't baboy (28 PhP)? This one's a real winner for Macky's: the sauce is different from your regular tokwa't baboy, and the pork meat is deep fried and very crispy. It should be called tokwa't lechon kawali or something:
They also serve palabok (25 PhP). :) The uncomfortably orange color of the sauce might freak you out but oh yeah it tastes so good you'll finish your plate...after having a bowl of goto that is!
I love the interior of Macky's too. Nothing fancy, just a place where one can comfortably eat his goto. :)
It's quite easy to get to Macky's. When you arrive at the Marikina River bridge from the Cubao direction, turn right on JP Rizal (when you see from the bridge 7-11 it means you have to turn right). Go straight and keep your eye to the left and you'll see Macky's. It is just near the church of Our Lady of the Abandoned. In case you miss Macky's and have reached the church, just park there and ask where Macky's is. It's about 20 meters from the church. If you're taking the jeepney, ride the Calumpang route and ask the driver to let you off Macky's.
MACKY'S GOTO
J.P. Rizal St., San Roque, Marikina City
Just a few meters before Our Lady of the Abandoned Church, across BPI Family Savings Bank
(Take the Calumpang Jeepneys)
Munching Budget per person: starts at 20 PhP
Marikina, aking hirang.

ReplyDeletei lurv lurv lurv lurv lurv their tokwa't baboy soooo much! :) yum!!
ReplyDelete@anonymous: yup, crispy yung balat nung baboy. i really think it should be called "tokwa't lechon kawali", hihi :D
ReplyDeletei was there this morning, sarap ng tokwa baboy.
ReplyDelete@mike: yes ang sarap nga talaga ng tokwa't baboy nila. :D even their iced banana! yum! :)
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Marikina until my elementary years and I still miss Macky's Goto, Aling Remy's Puto and Luyong Restaurant! Must visit them again.
ReplyDeleteyes, those are all institutions. :) "Macky's" still serves the killer goto-tokwa't baboy combo. :) hope you visit Marikina soon! thanks!!
ReplyDeleteMeron din silang branch sa Concepcion. Just in front of Unioil. :)
ReplyDeletehi Kharl, thanks!! so yun pala yung sinasabi nilang "Macky's 2"! I'll drop by so I can get photos of their other branch. Thanks again! :D
ReplyDeleteTry Sally's goto along santisima st. Literally, you'll be eating on the sidewalk.
ReplyDeleteOk, Sally's goto is noted! thanks for the tip! :D I hope to try it soon :D
ReplyDeleteGoto is my absolute comfort food! Will love to visit this place out the next time im in Marikina :)
ReplyDeleteyes, do check them out. For me, they serve the best tokwa't baboy too! super crunchy ng skin ng baboy. the soy sauce mix tastes really good too! thanks for dropping by ;-)
DeleteSorry, medyo slow ata ako. Pano uli yung directions from Cubao? Like from Aurora blvd? I'm dying to try their food!
ReplyDeletehello there! :-) from Cubao, you can take lrt from gateway to katipunan, then take the Calumpang jeep, may pila dun sa Katipunan station. I am not sure kasi if may Calumpang jeep from Aurora, alam ko from P. Tuazon lang.
DeleteThe Calumpang jeep will take you straight to Macky's ;-) Going into Marikina, dadaan ka over the river, then the jeep will turn right to JP Rizal. Sabihin mo pababa sa Macky's (landmark: Cafe Via Angelo and BPI Family Bank across Macky's). If nakarating ka sa church or sa Kapitan Moy, don't worry, konting lakad pabalik lang ang Macky's ;-)
tried Macky's for the first time (as my boyfie always boasts it as his "best goto") and indeed it was really good! I felt like I'm in my lola's home ^_^ and i agree with Roni that their tokwa't baboy must be called Tokwa't Lechon Kawali! :D
ReplyDeletehi Zarah! Well, what can I say... your boyfriend knows his goto well! ;-) One of Marikina's pride ang Macky's talaga. :-D and thanks for agreeing with me on the tokwa't baboy part ;-) Hope you visit other food places in Marikina too! And I look forward to hearing from you again. Thanks Zarah!
Deletehi is this still open? how do I get there if coming from Gil Fernando st.?
ReplyDeletehi is this still open? how do I get there if coming from Gil Fernando st.?
ReplyDeletehi Liez! not sure about the BEST route from Gil Fernando, but I suggest you go to Marikina Bayan and take the Pasig-bound jeepneys or the Calumpang-bound jeepneys, as they will pass by JP Rizal and/or the OLA San Roque Church.
DeleteI prefer you take the Calumpang jeep, since it passes right in front of Macky's. For Pasig-bound jeepneys, you get off at the church, so you need to walk a bit (which isn't a problem, unless it's raining hard, I guess).
Cheers Liez! ;-)
Hi Roni! thanks for the direction I already found the place by car, only problem was it was already closed when I got there around 9PM. Do you know their operating hours?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reply Roni! I finally found the place, I drove there.. but unfortunately it was closed when I got there around 9PM. Do you know the're operating hours? I tried going there early in the morning around 4AM too 'cause I thought they were open 24/7 :)
ReplyDeleteHi Liez! They open around 6am or 7am, and close early, I think the latest is 7pm. But usually it's around 5pm or 6pm, there was a time I went there at 2pm, sold out na ang tokwa't baboy! :-) Best time to go would be between 9am to 2pm ;-) Looking forward to you sharing your experience at Macky's! ;-) Thanks Liez!
DeleteGoodpm! We are open from 6:30-6:30. Sometimes before 6, if theres no goto already.. mondays to sundays. Between 10:00 to 11:00 is the arrival of the lunch meals.. thankyou for your nice comments! :) so come back again! -the management.
ReplyDeletethanks so much Macky's management for the info! ;-)
Deleteplease naman po, ang rice porridge po ay lugaw! the "goto" is the one wrongly called "twalya". Goto in english is tripe.
ReplyDeletewow! ang galing-galing niyo po! never ko pong nalaman yan! :-) thanks for the insight.
DeleteHindi lang twalya ang goto sir, kasama yung ibang innards. Tripe is twalya but goto is innards.
DeleteLugaw with goto kaya naassociate na yung term na goto. Yung lugaw with chicken, arrozcaldo naman
Deletethanks so much for the info! ;-) it's great to learn a lot from blog readers like you as well :-) thanks again!
DeleteWe ate yesterday... the food is good, I hope next time the owner or the manager kung sino man yun lalaki sa cashier area will not yell, shout to the crew or even to your immidiate family, nkakahiya kasi at NAKAKAWALANG GANANG KUMAIN hearing those words na p.i., bibitayin, babarilin kita.
ReplyDeleteoh no! i am so sorry you had to deal with that type of behavior. i do not know them personally, but i'll think of a way for your feedback to reach them. thanks so much!
