Love is in the air, and I am sure you guys are looking for a cool place to take your date this Valentines. But first, let me thank all you dear readers for constantly giving me places to check out in Marikina. I have been quite busy the past few months and thank God you are there to do the research for me!
This cafe has come up in emails and messages several times, so one fine Sunday, I decided to check it out. Just like many restos and bars in the ever-growing Marikina foodie scene, no expense was spared for the interiors of Daddy Bertz Cafe. Take a look:
Great ambience? Check. Now let's check out the food:

Great ambience? Check. Now let's check out the food:
Creamy Pumpkin Soup (60 PhP)
Iced Mocha Frap (forgot to take note of the price, oops!)
Pasta Arrabbiata - wow this pasta dish stands up to its name. I have been quite immersed in Italian culture (hehe) and have come across pasta dishes labeled arrabbiata but do not taste like so. This however has the right spiciness which I love!
Another thing to love at Daddy Bertz is their thin-crust pizza! Yum! (Quattro Formaggi @ 235 PhP)
We love burgers, so this one is a must-order: Daddy Bertz' 1/2 pound Bacon Cheeseburger. Sink your teeth into this you hungry people! (230 PhP)

I'm not sure if we tasted the same Arabbiata, but the one I tried a few weeks ago was too salty and wasn't at all spicy. The sausages were great though. Needless to say, I was still disappointed. I haven't tried going back to Daddy Bertz since.
ReplyDeletehi Isel! thanks so much for dropping by. :) awww i'm so sorry to hear about the salty pasta experience :( maybe they have improved since then (that's why my plate was good) hope you can give them another visit and tell us about it ;) thanks again dear! cheers
ReplyDeleteYah I thought that might be it because I think they were still on soft launch when I went there. Plus it was also December 31st. I was actually surprised they were open that day so I decided to try it out. I'll probably give it another shot. I did like the cake they had on display that day. It wasn't on the menu but they called it Chocolate Surprise, if I remember correctly. What I did not like though, is that they served my cake before they served my pasta. So by the time, I was done eating my salty pasta, the cake was already a bit melted and lopsided.
ReplyDeleteawwww! well, like you said, growing pains ;) hopefully when you check back in your experience will be a whole lot better! let us know. :) thanks Isel! more power to your blog as well ;) thanks dear!
ReplyDeleteMaalat yung arabiata nila. Tried coming back pero talagang ganun ang timpla maalat talaga
ReplyDeletehi there! oh no, another feedback on the saltiness. i hope Daddy Bertz is reading this so they can work on it. my dish was perfect, however. well, i suppose they have to work on the recipe's consistency, specially since they are still in the initial phase of their business, i'm sure they are trying their best to improve each time. thanks again for your feedback!! :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean by Arriabatta not tasting like one. I'm curious with the burger. Hope to try this soon! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for including me in your blog roll! :)

ReplyDeleteBahaha that's me and my friend in the third photo! :P
ReplyDeleteDaddy Bertz is a nice place, indeed. :)
Hi JM! :) I've been waiting for people to identify themselves in my photos... and you're the first one to do so! Yey! :) thanks for dropping by ;) see you around Marikina!
ReplyDeleteI've just been to daddy bertz, and i find it so cool and peacful. I got surpried that they have wifi already. Nice place to hang out, sipping coffee while browsing the internet. I ordered a carbonarra and baked laing, over all it was all good. The noodles were perfectly done and bacon were so crisp and so tasty. Loved it! Plus the iced tea with peach flavored has added some great delight to my dishes. Baked Laing on the other hand was awesome! Loving the combination of bechamel and spices that adds aromatic substance of the vegetable laing. It was a lovely dinner indeed. Love to be back and try out the other dishes...
ReplyDeletehello there Nikki! thanks so much for sharing your experience :) I have to try the baked laing!! sounds yummy. :) thanks and hope to hear from you again here :)
ReplyDeleteI got Gigi's OPM and the laing pizza. The drink's peppermint wasn't discernable, but the orange came through just right. I loved the laing pizza! :D
ReplyDeletehi Charo! thanks for your feedback. that's another plus point for the laing. hope to try it soon!! :) thanks again!
ReplyDeleteIs this the one across Burrito Brothers? I love Italian food, too. Will check the place when I go back home. It's been barely a month since my last weekend back at home in Marikina and I am already missing my hometown. Thanks for this review, Roni. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Michy, been MIA from the PEx Gluttons group for quite some time narin. Hehe.
hi Pao! yup, this is the cafe right across Burrito Brothers. Hope you can go back to our lovely hometown soon! :) thanks for dropping by, Pao! :)
ReplyDeleteHi roni! In my opinion, the food here was way too expensive for its taste. The tapsilog and french onion soup was nothing special, even the hazelnut coffee. And this may seem a bit shallow, but im really had a hard time studying/eating on their huge tables! I dont know it it's just me. Anyway, for me this place is not worth checking out.:(
ReplyDeleteP.s. Maybe we all have different tastes.:)
aww, i'm sorry to hear that. :-(
ReplyDeletei loved my first (and so far only) visit there, maybe we should both give them another shot! ;-)
Hi Roni! Just as I promised you, I have visited a couple of restaurants in Marikina. in Lilac specifically. Daddy Bertz is one of them. Ambiance was ok but I did not like the food. The price is too expensive for it's taste and presentation. My friend and I ordered the shredded pork and we did not get the same taste and presentation. There are some meals in the menu that is not available to order. Also, service is slow. We have waited for almost an hour for our food and worst the waitress forgot to take down one of order. I cannot recommend this to firends.
ReplyDeleteThe other resto I dine into is De Rivier Cafe & Resto beside Crazy Katsu. Did you feature this resto? I love it! Food is great plus a great place to hang out with friends.
I'll try out more on my next vacation in March :)
Take care!
Hi Sooz, sorry to hear about your experience. :-( Hope they take note of this of they get to read your feedback and see what they can do to improve. :-) I have seen De Rivier Cafe and have been intrigued by the cake display, haha! I will try the place next time I am at the Rancho area ;-) Thanks again Sooz! Hope to see you around Marikina when you get home next year!
Deletetotally disappointed with this restaurant/cafe! sabi ng waiter 10-15 mins to serve our orders but it took almost 1 HOUR ma serve! we keep on saying pa follow-up ng order, what more pa kaya kung hindi namin na follow-up! the food is not good too! the Baked Laing at P158 is SALTY! the plate presentation was so simple wondering why it took so long ma serve! the same thing with there other menu SALTY! we also ordered BIG BOSS BURGER at P178! grabe talaga! Gutom ka na nga sa kakahintay tapos ang iseserve syo HINDI PRESENTABLE na plating ng burger! ngayon lang ako nakakita ng burger with BIG slices of cucumber, tomato at LANTANG LETUCE! the PATTY itself was big nga pero HINDI MO MA DETERMINE ANG SHAPE NYA parang pinaglaruang imold! sa asar namain hindi namin ma take kainin yung burger so pina take out namin para makaalis na agad sa badtrip! upon checking at home ng burger para matikman kahit paano... another disappointment saan ka nakakita ng restaurant na BASTA NA LANG BINALOT sa ang take out mo! WE DID NOT ATTEMPT TO EAT IT NA... PINAKAIN KO NA LANG SA DOG NAMIN PARA HINDI MASAYANG ANG BAYAD KAHIT PAANO! NOT RECOMMENDED TO DINE IN AND OUT! KUNG BURGER AND PASTA LANG DIN MAG MAMA CHITS KNA LANG! KUNG LAING LANG DIN NAMAN EH MAS MASARAP PA LUTO SA ORDINARY CARINDERIA!
ReplyDeletesorry again to hear about this. maybe it's time i pay them a visit again... may they overcome growing pains, in case these are true. hope they get the chance to make it up to you someday ;-)
