MAMA CHIT'S

That hot, humid, Sunday afternoon, we were driving around Marikina, looking for a place to have our late lunch.

We drove around a bit, eventually parked the car beside the church (Our Lady of the Abandoned - San Roque) and started exploring the vicinity.
Just a block from the church, behind a gas station, we saw the sign "Mama Chit's". The marquee was very nice, and the place had a garden with tables and fancy stuff set up outside, so we decided to check it out... (There was a one-level totem pole and lots of colored bottles!)

...and lo! Were we surprised: the interior was adorned with vintage items, from 30-year old softdrink bottles, to old car plates from the US, to old print ads, and old photographs! I'm pretty sure we missed the turntable somewhere or something!

The girl (we are hypothesizing that she is the owner's granddaughter, haha) approached us and gave us copies of the menu. I enjoyed browsing through it: saw a variety of dishes, most of them western, at affordable prices, I would say. The place is semi-self service, once you get there, go to the counter to order, then pick a table.

We ordered some burger and turkey wrap, funny how the place seems fully stocked, when I was starting to get the impression that they don't have that much clients (Sorry Roni, they DO GET FULL especially in the evening!). Please dismiss my jumping to conclusions, and let's proceed with the grub:
The burger was veeeeery juicy! I loved the chips that they served with it, kind of reminded me of Barnaby's sour cream and chives:

The turkey wrap was a hit too! The meat wasn't dry at all:

The pasta was also good, we ordered the Seafood Marinara:

We were very bochogs after our merienda (ay merienda lang pala yun?), and spent the rest of our time there taking photos and keeping ourselves amused by their extensive collection.

That was the best part of our stay - looking around, as if walking down memory lane - the memory lane where we weren't even born yet... *awww*.

More reasons to love Mama Chit's here. And definitely more places in Marikina for you! Toodles!

  7. After Kris featured Mama Chits on TV, we became curious and wanted to try it right away. The place was jam packed. I can not believe people are willing to wait 2 hours for their burgers. Unfortunately, the staff did not make the wait pleasant. The staff was frazzled and a bit rude. There was no attempt to make the wait bearable. The burgers came out vey juicy and tasty. But the experience was terrible. Mama Chits is not ready for fame, and can not handle it well.

  12. hi po just wanna ask how to get there via public transportation if im from edsa shaw crossing or from pasig rotonda? thanks in advance..

    1. hi there! from Edsa Shaw you can take MRT to Cubao, then LRT 2 to Katipunan. At Katipunan, take the Calumpang and tell Manong to let you off Mama Chit's. When you see the big old church (Our Lady of the Abandoned San Roque Church), it means you're near. :-)

From Pasig Rotonda, I am not sure if Marikina Palengke jeepneys pass there, but if they do, take one, then get off at F. Paket Funeral near the old church (Our Lady of the Abandoned San Roque Church). You can tell Manong to remind you to get off at that point. You can then walk from there to Mama Chit's, just ask around, the place is quite popular ;-)

      Happy food tripping!!!

  13. Just want to share my experience here. Burgers are pricey for its taste and size.. we find it "matabang" and the dressing as well. Pasta noodles are overcooked, we never enjoy what we had on our table. Definitely, we won't be coming back again, not value for money. :) peace!

    1. thanks so much for the feedback! ;-) sorry to hear about your experience. for me Mama Chit's burgers are good, though I think the best so far in the city are the ones by Bun of Brothers ;-)

    2. Hi Roni, I appreciate your reply here. Actually, we expect alot kasi based on pictures and some tv reviews na featured out pala ito with Kris Aquino. The collections are great, halos doon kami nag enjoy na lang. Siguro hindi lng mataas yung expectation ko sa burgers nila and pasta since mahal sila, 150php ata.

I suggest you try a budget burger near Conception, tapat halos ng Jollibee don, across Petron, named Kalborgers. Medyo madami na din silang reviews sa TV. and I tried their patties, sobrang nasarapan ako while not damaging my budget, 65php lang and big enough for 1. :) sana ma try mo din ito. thanks!

  14. waa. I guess hindi na publish yung mala nobela kong reply. Anyway. I just want to thank you too for your response.

We just expecting a lot for its price. Naaliw lang kami sa decoration ng place as well as the vintage collections. If I may share, naka tikim ako ng burger "Kalborgers" along Conception area, tapat ng Jollibee conception marikina. Try it ronnie, mura yung burger 65php lang okay na!. plus yung 150php big burger nila is good for 2-3 person. :) I guess na feature na din sila before, but hindi na nakasabay sa social media. Thanks and looking forward for more reviews. - Pat

Like they say, ang mga memorable food experiences need not happen sa restos, minsan sa sidestreets or sa unexpected food places mo makukuha ang best dishes ;-)
thanks and looking forward to hearing more from you as well!

      cheers,

  15. When I saw Kris TV featuring Mama Chits, I dream of tasting their so called delicious burgers. But sadly, guys, don't be deceived by what you see and hear about their food. It' s only nice in pictures... that's all. Maybe it's my taste buds but there's no absolutely extraordinary taste in their food and the so called "S P E C I A L" halo-halo. Besides there were only two customers when we went there, and it took them a while to serve our food. The service is too slow that the halo-halo was already melting when they serve it. And they don't/forget to serve you drinking water even if you ask for it. That's "great customer relations". I don't dream of ever coming back there to eat.
