Christmas is just around the corner and what better way to spread the holiday cheer than by sharing with you talented homebakers from our city! When you buy from them, think about how you will both have a better Christmas. You have helped a small entrepreneur, and you have delicious treats for your family and loved ones as well! I am kickstarting this series with SWEETS BY KALI. Kandice sent me a message through the All Over Marikina page about her creations. They were all yummy! Take a look at the photos below, and don't forget to like Sweets by Kali on Facebook, too!

Name / Nickname: Kandice Lei Santos (my relatives and childhood friends call me 'Precious')
Brand name: SWEETS BY KALI

Oreo Stuffed Cookies
Specialties / recommended products

"Chewy oatmeal bars, my mom's recipe that's passed on to me. My banana choco chip muffin is also a click to most of my consumers, and also the Red velvet crinkles with cream cheese which is sweet, soft and so chocolatey."

 Banana Chocolate Chip Muffin

Red Velvet Crinkles with Cream Cheese Filling

Do you have a day job aside from baking? Can you share a bit?
"I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines but after a year of practice, I flew to another country to study and work for almost 4 years. I came back last year, 2013. I didn't work since then but instead I helped my mom at home and took care of my cousin's kids. Until I started Sweets by Kali."

How long have you been baking goodies? What started the idea of being a homebaker?
"It all started with my mom's hobby of cooking and baking. And I always observe and look on what's she's doing in the kitchen. So she started teaching me, I think that was during my grade school days. Every time she bakes something, I always help her and that's how I also practice baking.

When I was away in another country, most of my Filipino friends and family friends craved for Filipino sweets. So I started thinking on baking and selling Filipino sweets to earn extra money, such as Leche flan, Brazo de Mercedes, puto, pichi-pichi, cassava cake, banana cake and special coconut macaroons, which were my bestsellers then."

 Chewy Oatmeal Bars

Brownie Fudge Bars

"After a year of not working, since I came back, my friend asked me if I can bake something like brownies and cookies for her friend's tea shop. So I didn't think twice as I really like to bake and to earn money at the same time. That was 16th of May this year, when 'sweetsbykali' was born. I am supplying them fudge brownies and chewy oatmeal bars once a week. I post pictures on fb about my sweets and had quick response from my friends and my sister's friends. As of now I have 5 resellers who sell my sweets in their offices and hopefully more to come! I also accept package orders for souvenirs and giveaways in weddings, birthdays and any event. The price of the package depends on the kind of sweet they like. The prices of my goodies are very affordable they only range from 100-150 pesos per tub. They are perfect for Christmas gifts that are suitable for your tight budget!"

Sweets by Kali's products:
-Chewy oatmeal chocochip bars (10pcs per tub)
-Red velvet crinkles with cream cheese (12-14 pcs per tub)

Marikina will never run out of interesting food places, quite notable is the foodie haven boom at Lilac Street! My friend KC Astroboy, blog author of Fly, Astroboy, Fly, recommended this cool dessert cafe at the other end of Lilac: the wonder that is COOKIE MUG!

You'll get immediately drawn to the place by the smell of baked goodies and freshly brewed coffee, and maybe the statue of Betty Boop that I wasn't able to take a picture of (booo). The most interesting product of the cafe was of course, the cookie mugs. Edible shot-glass shaped cookies into which you can pour milk, caramel, or chocolate milk. The best part of course is eating the cookie mug after you finish your drink. Enjoy the photos!

 Cupcakes are for celebrations indeed!

 A platter of goodies! Yeyyyy!

Oreo Cream Cheese Scoop with White Chocolate Melt (35 PhP) --- SUPER YUMMY!

Cheese Cookie-Cake Shot (100 PhP) --- YUMMY AGAIN!

Here is the most talked-about specialty of them all --- a cookie mug shot! I ordered one with milk.

How can you not love cookies with milk, right? :-) Nom nom nom!

I would love more of these please!! XOXO

FOOD PANDA: Online Food Delivery Service in the Philippines!

While it seems that landline connections are becoming rare nowadays, it seems that some food establishments still conduct their delivery orders through this medium. Sadly, not all of us have landlines, and using our mobile phones to call a landline can cost a lot, specially if you still can't decide what to order, or if you have to stay on the line for a while to organize your order.

Food Panda, from the same group of online purchasing and service platforms such as Lazada, Zalora, Easy Taxi and Lamudi, has pioneered a centralized online food delivery service in the country. All you need to do is have an internet connection (which most of us do!), and download the app - available in the AppStore, Google Play and the Windows Phone Store.

Click on the FoodPanda icon on your phone and get ready for easy food ordering online! (That's my son as my wallpaper... kids grow up so fast, don't they?)

Click your current location, or type in your current city.

In my case, it's Malanday, Marikina City. FoodPanda will list all partner food establishments that can deliver to you. I, of course, immediately chose Tropical Hut because... do I need to explain why? It's an institution! :-D The other options, I will definitely try next time! ;-)

The menu is displayed, which you can easily browse, including the prices of the items.

Tap on the item to add it to your basket. The total is also automatically computed to help you keep the order within your budget... or convince you to splurge some more!

 Let me add a clubhouse...

As soon as you're done, go to your basket and check out. Indicate your delivery address (for security purposes, I did not take a shot of my exact address, haha). Then click Place Order.

Easy peasy. Your delivery time will be indicated on the Thank You message. In my case, it's 75 minutes. Now, please be a little patient with delivery. They have longer lead times for now, but I'm pretty sure the service will catch up as they ease into the food delivery scene. Expect a customer service representative to call you a few minutes after you place your order.

And finally... our order arrives! Dinner is served!

 My Tropical Hut Dinner

 My favoriiiiiiiite Quick Fried Beef!

 Palabok and Chicken

 The legendary Clubhouse Sandwich

Beef Steak

For more information, visit their website at! Let me know how your online food delivery experience goes. I'm gonna try out their services again really soon ;-)

Hi dearest Marikina Food Trippers! It's been a while since I last posted, I am really sorry about that! I was quite busy in putting up my own cupcakery in the South (we have too many already in the Metro, hehe!), but I remain in love with Marikina (and a resident of it of course), and I shall continue to write about all the great food that Marikina has to offer. Shuttling from Marikina to the South and back has been and continues to be a challenge, but I knew from the start it wouldn't be easy!

Sis and I discovered an awesome burger place near the Marikina City Hall! The place is PAPA ROCK'S BIG BURGERS AND GRILLERY. As soon as I received an invite to try out the place from Papa Rocky de Jesus himself, we packed a big appetite and headed off to Papa Rock's on an early Sunday morning.

You wont' miss it as it is located along Sparrow street, a walking distance from the Marikina City Hall. You will see this sign below, and you know that you have arrived at another awesome burger joint in Marikina.

We immediately surveyed the menu, and Papa Rocky was there personally to take our orders and chat with us as we waited for our dishes to arrive. I've said this many times, I really appreciate it when owners take time to talk to their customers and ask about the food served and their overall dining experience. Papa Rocky talked about the burger preparation, the concept behind their food, and we covered more topics about Marikina.

Then our orders arrived:

I have posted about this on the FB page, and this is by far my favorite rendition of Carbonara (60 PhP). Not too saucy, just the right amount of cream, cheese, BACON, the pasta cooked to a perfect al dente. I told Papa Rock that they definitely nailed this one. If I want Carbonara, I have Papa Rock's on top of my list.

Then comes the star of the set: THE JAWBUSTER (150 PhP). The buns tasted really fresh, the patties were cooked perfectly, the proportions of the cheese, dressing and veggies were spot on. This is definitely a burger you have to experience! I think a lot of those who already tried it will agree. :-)

We also sampled the breakfast menu, of which we chose the Heavy Breakfast (60 PhP). Yes you read it right: 60 PESOS ONLY! You have two waffles, three cocktail hotdogs and an egg, which you can have sunny side up or scrambled. I love how they cooked the waffle too! This is another item on the menu you shouldn't miss, especially if you want to have your tummy filled at an affordable price.

The shakes are good, too. We ordered the Strawberry Shake (40 PhP) and the Choco-Banana Blend (60 PhP). These went really well with the burger. It takes you to a "diner" feel. A good burger + a good milkshake ;-)

Conquered the JawBuster! Success!

I wouldn't miss a photo op with Papa Rocky!

Papa Rock's can accommodate around 20 to 30 people (or more?) since they have extended the dining area beyond the counter. I look forward to visiting them again, and I highly recommend this place for SUPER good food, at SUPER affordable prices. Hope you visit them soon!

You guys have seen me posting about this on the All Over Marikina Facebook page, and I am more than happy to be blogging about COCO FRESH TEA AND JUICE, which recently opened their first branch in the Philippines right in the heart of Eastwood (a neighbor of ours, yes!), and has over 1,500 stores worldwide!

We all love milk teas, fruit juices, iced coffees... a drink trend that started way back. COCO FRESH TEA AND JUICE offers not just the same line up of drinks that we are used to having, but a whole new set of healthy alternatives for refreshments. Their secret? FRESH ingredients that are sourced from the best suppliers both locally and abroad.

There are three tea bases for their drinks: the black, the green tea, and the mountain tea base, which are all beverages rich with anti-oxidants.

The Lemon Calamansi with Aloe is a refreshing mix of citrus components, perfect for the summer weather!

The Pineapple Black Tea Jelly has in its mix pineapples from Taiwan, in Assam Black Tea, topped with Coconut Jelly

The Grapefruit and Orange tea has a very distinct grapefruit flavor, perfectly mixed with orange.

Look at all those cups of freshness!

Sis holding our favorite drink: the PASSION FRUIT TEA BURST! Made with Passion Fruit sourced from Ecuador and Vietnam, blended with Jasmine tea, mixed with pearls and coconut jelly. This one is really, really good. You should try this when you visit Coco Fresh Tea and Juice!

No kidding: I visit their store in Eastwood least once a week! :-)

During the TeamUp event, Larry Evans Tan, General Manager, walked us through the brand and its advocacies, and addressed all the questions that we had.

EHEM! As guest speaker, they invited Chris Everingham a Health Coach and a member of the Philippine Volcanoes to give health tips, and to discuss the benefits of drinking tea.

Such a hottie!

Cute :-)

Bagay ba kami? Hehe! During the break, we got divided into groups to create our own drinks. How cool was that? Chris got assigned to our team! Yey!

I also got to meet fellow bloggers, like Teta of Let's Talk, Let's Eat, Let's Wander, and Kim Nieves of Glitteringly Yours.

And the awesome ladies behind Mission Green Possible! Check out their site, it's really cool!

Joining Coco Fresh Tea And Juice TeamUp is Fashion Blogger Laureen Uy, (Larry and Chris), and Ateneo's Gretchen Ho and Selina Dagdag.

From Marikina, that would be me and Sis! Hehe!

Coco Fresh Tea and Juice opens soon in SM City Fairview and Fisher Mall! Watch out for it! For now, head to their Eastwood Branch (Technoplaza 2) and grab your cups of high-quality drinks of freshness!
