As young as this cafe may seem, it sure has taken a remarkable spot in the Marikina dining scene. Barely five months old, Some Kind of Wonderful Cafe (now more popularly known as SKOW) continues to update their menu with the most palate-delighting dishes and maintain the one of the coolest playlists for their diners (80s hits, oh yeah!).

I was there again last weekend with my sister and Sweetie, to check out their new menu. SKOW closed for a couple of weeks for maintenance repair and menu updating, and we were very glad to discover that they now also have a menu for Japanese cuisine!

I like this picture a lot, hehe!

As usual, we wanted to try everything, but since we had limited stomach space, we got to try only two items on their Japanese menu:

Prawn Tempura and the Kani Tempura (130 PhP each) (I am IN LOVE with the Kani Tempura - shreds of crab meat, oh my!)

Stir-fried mixed veggies (80 PhP)! So fresh and crisp!

This is me devouring the tempura plate. And what is that brown, inviting, beautiful slice of something?

A moist, delicious slice of chocolate caramel cake (75 PhP). This is the first type of cake I've tried in SKOW, and I'll definitely come back for more (specifically, for the Strawberry Shortcake!)

The cake slice's mother, hehe. Anyway, I can't even aptly describe how moist the chocolate cake is!

I am now about to feature the other dishes that we had that night. At the end of this post, you will see SKOW's flag carrier. They say that every restaurant offers a signature dish, and for SKOW, I believe that's the one dish that I can order every single time I go there, and not get tired of it.

On with their other great dishes first:

Our SKOW staple: Tender, sweet and spicy BARBECUED SPARE RIBS (140 PhP)

FISH AND CHIPS (170 PhP). Fish fillet deep fried with its flavorful batter, served hot with their special tartar sauce and French Fries.

Buttered Prawns with Aioli (180 PhP)

Me and Sis enjoying all the great things SKOW has to offer (Thanks for this shot, Sweetie!)

And now, for their dish that stole my heart and relinquished it with so much joy:

SALMON STEAK IN LEMON CAPER SAUCE (195 PhP). The Salmon was moist, tender, flavorful. The Caper Sauce tangy, creamy and silky. The potato salad perfectly complementing the whole dish. This is one of SKOW's best dishes. This is their flag carrier, like I mentioned.

So, what are you waiting for? Experience these dishes and visit Some Kind of Wonderful Cafe in Marikina today! (Except on Tuesdays, they're closed.)

This is easily one of my favorite cafes in Marikina. Look at these photos and tell me, who wouldn't love the interiors of Cafe Kapitan?

 The cool bar

 A wishing well!

Ahhh, I love these types of walls...So classic :)

I'd say, this is one of the places to bring your date. Hehe! Cafe Kapitan has such a lovely ambiance. And the food?

Blue Marlin a la Pobre... Pobre means poor right? But this one's rich in flavor!

Sweet and Sour Pork

Crab Omelette. Yum yum yum!

The place is often rented for wedding receptions and birthdays. They offer special packages for any occasion (venue + catering). Anyway, we still have to try their Paella. :) Now, I am really looking forward to that!

Barely two-months old, this restaurant that offers a cuisine of Mediterranean fusion proved itself worthy checking out. It was Mother's Day and STORMY. We were choosing among three food places to have dinner with Mom and we picked MEDITERRASIA. We surely made the right choice :)

The restaurant opened last month and the owners have recently updated their menu. We were lucky to meet one of the owners that night, Mark Orga, who manages the restaurant together with Francis Lacsamana. The set-up of the place was modern, with both sidewalls open. No need for air-conditioning: the breeze joins you in dining and the venue's laid-back and warm feel can cater to any group of diners anytime.

Nice paintings

You can opt to sit by the terrace

Hello, Jack!

Love their lamps, too :)

We were excited about their updated menu, so we ordered almost...everything. Hehe! Check out their dishes:

Chicken French (the crowd favorite!)

Mediterrasian Seafood Twist

MediterrAsian Lemon Chicken

Beef Shawarma

MediterrAsian Red Chicken

 Pork Chop Vienna

Beef Stroganoff

And bottomless Iced Tea for everyone!!!

An awesome place to celebrate Mother's Day (or any occasion, at that). Check out MediterrAsia today! (And oh, they serve a variety of cocktails too!)

Happy Diners! (Sorry Ruel, I had to pick this shot, hehe!)

More Reasons to Love CAFE LIDIA

We were back at Cafe Lidia last weekend after having dinner. After all, we weren't able to try out their talked-about cakes the last time we were there. See my first post on Cafe Lidia by clicking here.

More reasons to love Cafe Lidia? The cakes!!! They have so many cake variants available and so much dishes on their menu that I never wonder why we are always waiting for a table whenever we come here. The place is always full!

With their free wi-fi and bottomless drinks, and yummy desserts, you can chill with your family and friends while de-stressing. They serve great pizza and pasta too!

The very sinful and uber creamy Dulce de Leche.

Grandma's Chocolate Cake (See that carameeeeeel filliiiiiiing?!?)

 Classic Sans Rival

Marshmallow Chocolate Cake (The filling was chocolate fudge with chocolate chips. Oh la la!)

 Cake group shot. :D

Craving for Thai Food while in Marikina City? Good news: KRUNG THAI, the longest-running (if not the ONLY) Thai restaurant of Marikina, is right in the heart of the city. Located centrally at the public market, you can get your Thai cuisine craving sated any day of the week. And oh yes they serve REALLY good food. A couple of weeks ago, I checked out the restaurant again (for the Nth time) with my family and Sweetie to prepare for this feature.

 The Menu

Inside the restaurant. Cozy and comfy.

Thai-themed ornaments

So now, let's get to the food, yes?

Thai-style Iced Tea (79 PhP). So yummy with its milky flavor.

Bagoong Rice with Special Omelette and Pork Adobo bits (99 PhP/189 PhP/389 PhP for small, medium and large servings). A meal on its own.

This Spicy Green Mango Salad comes with every order of Bagoong Rice.

The Best Spring Fried Chicken I have ever tasted. Full of flavor! (129 PhP/249 PhP/498 PhP for quarter, half or whole chicken)

What makes the Spring Fried Chicken even better is if you dip it in this Thai Chili Sauce. SO-YUMMY-NESS.

Thai Spring Rolls filled with meat, bean sprouts and glass noodles. Delicious.

What's a Thai meal without Pad Thai (129 PhP)? Seasoned flavorful Thai noodles with Tofu and Sprouts. Another winner from Krung Thai.

A photo of me and my "Barkada", also known as my Mom simply enjoying Thai food. Thanks for this shot Sweetie!

Head to Krung Thai for an instant feel of Thailand any time. :)
