Sorry, since I am entitled to my own opinion, I would say that this is the best kutsinta in the Philippines! :)
Kutsinta, or little rice cakes with a gelatinous texture, has been a Filipino favorite for merienda or dessert. They are usually made and served as round cakes, but in Marikina's Maning's kutsinta, they make them in bilaos, or big round rattan trays.
When you step into their store to buy a whole bilao or even one fourth (yes, they retail), you will be greeted by the fragrance of newly-cooked kutsinta: the smell of sugar, langka (jackfruit) and butter saying hello to all frequent customers. You have to try their kutsinta!
And I do step into their store...
...and help out? Hehe!
They also serve very good puto, it's thick unlike your regular puto, and it is topped with cheese and grated salted egg. Another must-try!
This is Nanay (take note, she doesn't want to be called "lola"!) who mans the store all day, all week. She has two assistants to attend to all the people buying kutsinta and puto. Better drop by early, because like they say, these sell like hotcakes! :)

Honestly, sa lahat ng rice cakes sa pilipinas pinaka pinaka favorite ko talaga ang kutsinta. Hindi ko nga alam kung anong masarap don, e sabi nila brown sugar lang naman daw ang main ingredient non. Masarap siya with fresh niyog. :) Nice! may map, alam ko na kung paano pumunta doon :) hihihi
ReplyDeleteanog gamit mong lens dito yung 18-200 VR2? nice.
ReplyDeletethanks for the "map" idea! :D

I love that kutsinta! Is this the one near the bisita ng Calumpang?
ReplyDeletehi adora, yes it is! near tayug and the church ;)
ReplyDeleteHi Roni, you should try this new hole in the wall cafe in SSS village. It's an 80's theme cafe, it's very homy and a very cute cafe. They opened 2 months ago, the chef owner formerly works at Mandarin. I've been there twice, and in my humble opinion i think they serve the best gourmet cheeseburger and the best pasta in Marikina, try also their salmon steak and their BBQ ribs. Try it and you'll be the judge. It's located at Rainbow st. SSS village Marikina, it's in front of St. Paul church. The name is Some Kind of Wonderful (SKOW) cafe.
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! that sounds delish! I will check out their place next week. thanks so much for the SKOW recommendation ;)
ReplyDeleteSKOW cafe is open Mon-Sun except Tuesdays, They're open from 12pm - 10pm. I think Tuesday is their rest day. This cool cafe is right across St. Paul Parish Church, Rainbow street. I just went a week ago after the sunday mass. The place is just awesome! it's such a cool place. If you are an 80heist(person who are stuck in the 80's) i guess this place is for you. You'll love the interior, very homey. Food is magnificent! Pasta is great, rice meals very good especially the ribs and the salmon. Cheeseburger is excellent.
ReplyDeletehi benny blanco! thanks so much for the feedback. and yes, I looooooove the 80s. I'll check out the place this weekend!!! :)
ReplyDeleteSKOW, ready your cheeseburgers.;)
P.S. I hope you play all them 80s hits while I dine. woot woot!
